New faculty member Keith Hand, a Chinese law and criminal procedure expert, arrives from Beijing to teach courses in Chinese law. Hand received his JD and a Masters in China studies from the University of Washington.
Before joining the Hastings faculty, Hand was a senior fellow and the Beijing director at Yale Law School’s China Law Center, where he negotiated cooperative legal reform projects and conducted research on constitutional and judicial reform issues. Prior to his overseas work, he was the senior counsel to the U.S. Congressional-Executive Commission on China, monitoring legal reform and human rights and advising Congress on U.S. policy. Hand also practiced at Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison in New York for two years.
