Mediation Team Wins 4th Place in Paris

Going against 40 teams from all over the world in the International Chamber of Commerce's International Commercial Mediation Competition in Paris, France, Hastings students (L to R), Elizabeth Cooper, Maple Lay, James Hurst, and Stepanie Peter competed over 6 days through 6 rounds to make it to the semi-finals. Hastings alum and Head Coach Clint Waasted said, "The team was brilliant ... I am quite proud."
The ICC competition consists of two parts: written and oral advocacy. During four days of preliminary rounds, competitors must apply ICC's Amicable Dispute Resolution (ADR) rules to solve problems, devised by a special drafting committee of international mediation experts. Student teams are divided into requesting party and responding party in mock mediation sessions, where team members act out the role of sounsel and client before a mediator and two judges.
