Leo Martinez '78 Assumes Role as Acting Chancellor and Dean

Martinez, a 1978 graduate of the law school, joined the Hastings faculty in 1985 and previously served as Academic Dean for 12 years.
As Acting Chancellor and Dean, Martinez focuses on external matters, including testifying on budget matters before the California legislature and working on Hastings’ behalf with local, state, and national elected and appointed officials. Dean Martinez works with the Hastings Board of Directors, which charts the overall course for Hastings, as well as with the 1066 Foundation Board of Trustees, and the Hastings Alumni Association Board of Governors.
Martinez received his undergraduate degree in math and physics from the University of Kansas and an M.S. in systems analysis from the University of Southern California. While attending Hastings, he was elected to the Order of the Coif and Thurston Society and served as managing editor of the Hastings Law Journal. He chairs several boards, including the St. Francis Hospital Foundation, Public Radio Capital and Public Advocates. He is currently vice chair of the Northern California Public Broadcasting board and sits on Access Group's board.
A scholar of tax, contracts, insurance and communications law, Dean Martinez has co-authored the West text on insurance law and the Lexis Nexis practice guide to insurance law.
