Moot Court Success at Juvenile Law and Asylum Law Competitions

Whittier Team Members L to R: Julia Brighton, Josephine Mason, Samantha Vickery, Meaghan Snyder
Hastings had another successful weekend at two national moot court competitions. First, at the National Juvenile Law Moot Court Competition sponsored by Whittier Law School on February 6, 2010, both Hastings teams placed as semifinalists. Second year students Meaghan Snyder and Samantha Vickery also received the 2nd Place Best Brief award, and fellow 2Ls Julia Brighton and Josephine Mason won 3rd Place Best Brief. The Whittier competition is a national event dedicated exclusively to issues confronting families and children. Congratulations to the team, particularly on upholding the Hastings tradition of strong written advocacy. Thanks to alumni coaches Teri Nguyen and Chad Herrington and student coaches Andrew Minegar and James de los Reyes for their incredible support.
At the Asylum and Refugee Law National Moot Court Competition, sponsored by U.C. Davis School of Law on February 6, 2010, the Hastings team of Elizabeth James (3L) and Armin Najaf (2L) also placed as semifinalists. This is the only immigration law moot court competition on the West Coast, and the only one in the nation devoted exclusively to the topic of asylum and refugee law. The Hastings Moot Court program congratulates the team for this impressive finish, and thanks student coach Suparna Jain for her support and input. Special thanks to alumni coach K.C. Donovan, who has coached the Asylum & Refugee Law team for several years.
