Hastings students Tiffany Gates, Leeja Patel, and Kaiya Reeve came in Second Place at the Pacific Regional Rounds of the Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Chapman University.  This victory qualifies the team to compete in the international rounds of the competition in March at the Stetson University College of Law in Florida.  The team's brief also won the Second Best Brief award.

The Stetson competition has regional events in Australia, Latin America, North America, North India, South India and Southeast Asia, with more than 80 teams competing from law schools around the world.  The Stetson competition provides an opportunity for law students to explore issues of international environmental law in the context of a dispute before the International Court of Justice.  International environmental legal experts evaluate and score the participants' briefs.

Special thanks to student coach Manisha Daryani, a member of last year's award-winning Stetson team, whose experience and guidance was invaluable to this year's team. The Moot Court Program also thanks alumni coach Sara Aminzadeh who brought her moot court, international law, and environmental law experience and knowledge to the team.

Please help Tiffany, Leeja, and Kaiya prepare for the Stetson international rounds in Florida by visiting www.hastingsmootcourt.com and signing up to be a volunteer judge for one of their practices!  Our website also has the schedules for other Hastings teams that are currently practicing for their competitions and that also need your help.  Please contact Toni Young, younga@uchastings.edu, to hear about other ways you or your firm can continue to support the strong tradition of Moot Court success at Hastings.
