Professor Karen Musalo Provides Commentary on Ninth Circuit Case

Many media outlets have featured commentary by Professor Karen Musalo, Director of the Center for Gender & Refugee Studies, about  the Ninth Circuit's decision involving a woman asylum seeker from Guatemala. 

The Ninth Circuit reversed her deportation order and ordered the asylum claim to be reconsidered by the Board of Immigration Appeals, opening up the possibility that women from Guatemala could qualify for political asylum in the U.S. due to the severe violence against women and the impunity in the country. The center provided technical assistance to the attorney on the case as well as legal materials.
