UC Hastings Hosts Chinese Supreme People’s Court Delegation

UC Hastings recently hosted a visit by judges from China's highest court, the Supreme People's Court, and provincial high courts in Hebei, Sichuan and Yunnan provinces. The judicial delegation engaged in discussions with both UC Hastings scholars and lawyers from the Office of the San Francisco City Attorney on the issue of citizen claims against government entities.
At a banquet in the UC Hastings Skyroom to welcome the visiting judges, Chancellor and Dean Frank H. Wu emphasized the need for continued legal exchange between the United States and China.
"Hastings attaches great importance to the study and understanding of China's legal system and to dialogue between leading judges and legal professionals in our two great countries," Wu said. "We are honored to receive the Supreme People's Court delegation today and look forward to expanding our cooperation with the Court and other legal institutions in China in the months and years ahead."
In addition to Wu, UC Hastings participants at the Nov. 1 event included Professor and Associate Dean for International and Graduate Programs Joel Paul, Professor Marsha Cohen, Professor Naomi Roht-Arriaza, Clinical Professor Carol Izumi and Associate Professor Keith Hand.
