Prof. Heather M. Field Awarded Tenure

The UC Hastings Board of Directors has awarded tenure to Associate Professor Heather M. Field and promoted her to full professor, effective July 1, 2011.

Field is both a noted tax scholar and a much admired teacher.

"Professor Field is the epitome of the perfect colleague," said Academic Dean Shauna Marshall. "She is a gifted and dedicated teacher who makes tax come alive in the classroom; a productive scholar whose work has already contributed significantly to the field; and a colleague who serves the institution in ways too numerous to count."

Field's research includes tax elections, the role of choice in the tax law, and the effect of tax law on businesses and on business transactions. In 2008, she was honored with the Rutter Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Field received her J.D., magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School and worked as a tax lawyer at Latham & Watkins for six years. She joined the UC Hastings faculty in 2006.
