Prof. Rory Little Discusses Tucson Shooting Trials

UC Hastings Prof. Rory Little has been quoted in two recent New York Times articles regarding the prosecution of Jared L. Loughner, the man charged with the Tucson shooting rampage.
In a January 12, 2011 article, Prof. Little discussed the possible federal and state trials of Mr. Loughner, who may have to be defended in separate trials brought by federal and state prosecutors. "I think initially there'll be some confusion as to who's going to go first, and how fast they are going to go," said Little. Read the full article.
In a January 13, 2011 article, Prof. Little commented on whether the shooting of John M. Roll, a chief federal judge in Arizona, would "pass muster" as a federal case in light of a remark in President Obama's speech at the memorial service in Tucson that suggested Roll was a bystander, and possibly not engaged in performance of official duties at the time of the shootings. "Based on what we know," said Little, "it seems like a difficult issue, and importantly, not an issue that would arise in a state prosecution." Read the full article.
