Prof. Leo Martinez Honored by Latino/a Law Professors

Prof. Leo P. Martinez '78 has been presented with the annual Latino/a Law Professors Award by the Latino/a Law Professors Group in recognition of his "outstanding contributions to the Latino/a community in general and Latino/a law professors in particular." The honor, bestowed during a special ceremonial dinner at the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) Annual Meeting in San Francisco on January 6, 2011, is commemorated with a crystal award that reads "2011: Leo P. Martinez -- Teacher, Scholar, Friend."

Martinez is only the fifth recipient of the Latino/a Law Professors Award, which began as an annual tradition in conjunction with the AALS Annual Meeting in 2007. He joins Rachel Moran of UCLA (2010), Laura E. Gómez of the University of New Mexico (2009), Cruz Reynoso of UC Davis (2008), and Michael A. Olivas of the University of Houston (2007).

"I am honored and humbled to be recognized by the Latino Law Professors," said Martinez. "While I know there are more deserving recipients, I also know that no one appreciates this more than I do."

An endowed UC Hastings scholarship was also established in Martinez's name in November, 2010: Community Gathers to Honor Prof. Martinez, Celebrate Scholarship.
