Tom Gede ’81 Appointed to Federal Tribal Law and Order Commission



U.S. House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner has appointed attorney Tom Gede '81 to the new federal Tribal Law and Order Commission. The Commission is a nine-member panel which was created by a 2010 federal law with the goal of lowering crime rates in tribal communities.

Gede is a principal in the Bingham Consulting Group and of counsel to Bingham McCutchen LLP. Previously, he served extensively in the California Attorney General's office, first as Deputy Attorney General and later as Special Assistant Attorney General, where he advised then-Attorneys General Dan Lungren and Bill Lockyer. Gede was also Executive Director of the Conference of Western Attorneys General.

Gede is an adjunct professor of Federal Indian Law at University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and serves on the Board of Directors at UC Hastings College of the Law. He received his B.A. from Stanford University and his J.D. from UC Hastings in 1981.
