Moot Court Team Wins Federal Bar Association National Championship

UC Hastings Moot Court teams earned major awards in three recent competitions, affirming their reputation as one of the most successful and well-respected Moot Court programs in the country. Lawschooladvocacy.com now lists UC Hastings as #3 in their running tally of Appellate Advocacy Rankings for the 2010 season. These competitions provide excellent experience in legal research, analysis, writing, and oral advocacy, good contacts in the legal community, resume value, and a great sense of accomplishment, teamwork and school spirit.
Thurgood A. Marshall Memorial Moot Court Competition
Washington, D.C., March 17-18, 2011
The UC Hastings Moot Court team won first place and the title of National Champions at the Fourteenth Annual Thurgood A. Marshall Memorial Moot Court Competition, hosted by the Federal Bar Association's Young Lawyers Division.
UC Hastings sent two teams to the competition, culminating in an exciting Hastings v. Hastings final round. 2L students Heidi Hansen and Angela McIssac emerged victorious, winning first place in the competition. The team also received the award of Second Best Brief and Heidi Hansen was recognized as the Second Best Oral Advocate in the entire competition. UC Hastings 2L students Dakotah Griscom Benjamin and Taryn Hunter finished an impressive second place in the competition, with Taryn Hunter receiving the award of Best Oral Advocate in the final round.
Now in its 14th year, the Thurgood A. Marshall Moot Court Competition is one of the premier Moot Court Competitions in the country. Every round of the competition is held at a different courthouse, and all of the individuals who serve as judges in the competition are actual judges, practitioners, or leading scholars.
The UC Hastings teams extend their special thanks to student coaches Sarah Kagan and Alex Worgaftik, and Alumni Coaches Eliza Hoard and Nate Cardozo for their invaluable support of the Moot Court program.
Robert F. Wagner National Labor & Employment Law Moot Court Competition

The UC Hastings Moot court team finished proudly as Quarter-Finalists in the 35th Annual Robert F. Wagner National Labor & Employment Law Moot Court Competition, hosted by New York Law School. UC Hastings 3L students Phil Norris, Casey Williams and 2L student Kate Svinarich also received the award of Best Respondent Brief.
The Wagner Competition is the nation's largest student-run moot court competition and the premier national competition dedicated exclusively to the areas of labor and employment law.
The UC Hastings team extends a special thank you to student coach Kai Savaree-Ruess and Alumni Coach Emily Chan for their tireless dedication and support.
Stetson International Environmental Moot Court Competition
Baltimore, Maryland, March 17-20, 2011
UC Hastings 3L student Tiffany Gates and 2L students Lance Cidre and Spencer Potter finished as Quarter-Finalists at the 15th Annual Stetson International Environmental Moot Competition, hosted by Stetson University College of Law.
The UC Hastings team competed against some of the best schools from around the world, including teams from Brazil and India. UC Hastings secured their spot at the prestigious International Finals through their first place win at the Regionals held in Denver, Colorado on January 28-29, 2011.
