Moot Court Team Sweeps Four National Championships

17th Annual Evans A. Evans Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition
The UC Hastings Moot Court team finished the year with two impressive championships to add to their list of stellar performances this year.
The team took home the gold, winning first place and the title of national champion at the Evans A. Evans Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition, hosted by the University of Wisconsin Law School Moot Court Board in Madison, WI on March 25–27.
UC Hastings sent two teams to the competition. Nick Billings '12 and Caitlin Tallon '12 emerged victorious, winning first place in the competition and securing the National Championship for UC Hastings. The second team, comprised of Kai Savaree-Ruess '11 and Loriana Moizesch '12, performed admirably and gave strong oral arguments.
Student coaches Kelly Foss '12 and Matt Tabo '12, and alumni coaches Charlie Bisesto and Kris Kokotaylo provided support for the program.
Robert J. Traynor Moot Court Competition
UC Hastings won the Traynor Moot Court Competition State Championship at the University of San Francisco School of Law on April 2–3.
Nick Deming '12, Sarah Gosling '12 and Liam Knepprath-Malone '12 delivered outstanding performances, earning them the championship title. The team collectively received the award of Best Oral Advocate Team in the competition, and Gosling was recognized as the best oral advocate in the preliminary rounds.
Student coach Phillip Norris '11 and alumni coach Mark D'Argenio supported the team in their efforts.
Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition
The moot court team also had a strong finish at the 52nd Annual Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition-International Rounds in Washington, D.C. on March 20–26.
Michael Freedman '11 and Caitlin Daniel '12, Megan Havstad '12 and Ken Nabity gave strong performances at Jessup. The team received the 2nd Best Respondent's Brief award, 10th Best Combined Brief award. In addition, the team was recognized as having three of the top 100 oralists. They had secured their spot in the International Rounds of Jessup when they won the Regional Championship in Portland, OR on February 24–27.
Now in its 52nd year, the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition is the world's largest moot court competition, with participants from over 500 law schools in more than 80 countries.
Student coach Vince Lombardozzi '11 and alumni coaches Nema Milaninia and Mari Overbeck worked with the team.
