Costs, Scholarships and Financial Assistance

The UC Hastings MSL program will launch in 2012 with classes beginning in late August. The current MSL student fees will be $41,200 for the year with no distinction made between in-state and out-of-state residents.  Health insurance fees will be $2,480*. Scholarships will be available. Estimated living expenses are $21,156**.

Full-time students and part-time students taking a minimum of six credit hours per semester are eligible for federal loan programs including the Stafford unsubsidized loans and graduate PLUS loans***.  All scholarship and financial aid decisions are made on an individual basis.  UC Hastings will work with each admitted MSL student to craft a financial plan that is best for him or her.

MSL students applying for financial aid should submit the FAFSA (U.S. citizens and Permanent Residents only) and the 2012-13 UC Hastings Financial Aid Supplement by March 1, 2012.

*Health insurance for UC Hastings students is mandatory; however entering students with proof of equivalent coverage can apply for a health insurance waver. If the waver is approved, the insurance charge will be reversed.

**Living expenses include housing, food, transportation, books and supplies, and federal loan fees. The estimate is based on a nine month academic calendar and the same estimate is used for on- or off-campus housing.

***UC Hastings College of the Law is accredited by the American Bar Association. For the MSL program, additional accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is required in order for MSL students to be eligible for federal financial aid funds and in order for employers and other colleges and universities to recognize the degrees and academic credit.

The University of California Hastings College of the Law has applied for Eligibility from the Senior College Commission of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. WASC has reviewed the application and determined that the College is eligible to apply for accreditation.  WASC will conduct a visit in spring 2012 and will consider UC Hastings for initial accreditation by the WASC Commission at its June 2012 meeting.  Questions about the College’s Eligibility may be directed to the institution or to WASC at wascsr@wascsenior.org or (510) 748-9001.
