Anonymous Gift of $10,000 Given to Support New Intellectual Property Concentration
An anonymous gift of $10,000 was given to support a new intellectual property concentration at Hastings. Dean Nell Newton '76 says, "We are thrilled about this generous gift and look forward to implementing a formal concentration in intellectual property at Hastings. This has been a long-time goal of mine, considering the law school's close proximity to the biotech industry and Silicon Valley."
The IP concentration is designed to better prepare students who wish to practice IP and to also create a sense of community among committed IP students and faculty.
Students are required to take core classes of copyright, patents and trademarks and can then choose from an array of electives and skills-based offerings, which enables students to gravitate toward one area of IP law, such as patents. Electives include courses that range from digital media law to venture capital and the start-up company.
