Hastings Teams Dominate in Wisconsin

Two Hastings moot court teams dominated the out-rounds of the Evan A. Evans Constitutional Law Moot Court Competition at the University of Wisconsin Law School, March 26-29, 2009.  The team of Gina Altomare and David Prager advanced to the national quarterfinal rounds, and the team of Chris Cotter and Jessica Luke advanced to the national octofinal rounds.  Chris Cotter also won the national second place oral advocate award.

This year’s Evans problem focused on the cutting-edge issue of school strip searches, which is currently pending before the U.S. Supreme Court.  The teams also analyzed the authority of school officials to suppress internet speech on school campuses.

Congratulations to the teams, to the student coaches, Kyong Kim and Kimberly Smith.  Special thanks to the teams’ accomplished alumni coaches, Amy Rose and Arturo Sandoval, who are both long-time supporters of the Department and of our highly successful teams!
