Yumi Nam and James de los Reyes Carmen Lo and Darren Chan Hastings 2L students Yumi Nam and James de los Reyes, pictured on the left, were the second place regional winners of the Thomas Tang/NAPABA International Moot Court Competition, securing them a spot at the upcoming National Final Rounds on November 19-22, 2009, in Boston, Massachusetts.  Additionally, Ms. Nam won the award for the Third Place Best Oral Advocate.  The Hastings Tang team of Carmen Lo and Darren Chan, pictured on the right, completed the preliminary rounds with distinction.  The regional rounds were held on October 17, 2009, at Chapman University School of Law.

The Thomas Tang National Moot Court Competition is administered by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. The Competition honors the late Judge Thomas Tang, a champion of individual rights and an advocate for the advancement of minority attorneys. The Competition is open to all students but is especially designed to reach out to APA law students, and provide them with an opportunity to showcase their writing and oral advocacy skills and compete for scholarships totaling $10,000.

The Hastings Moot Court Department extends special thanks to student coaches Euborn Chiu and Kyong Kim.  The program also thanks Tang alumni coaches Cary Chen, Michelle Law, and Ryan Takemoto for their ongoing support of the Moot Court program.

Please help the Tang team prepare for its final rounds in Boston by visiting www.hastingsmootcourt.com and signing up to be a volunteer judge!  You will also find the schedules for the other Hastings teams that are currently practicing for their competitions and that also need your help with judging.  Please contact Toni Young, younga@uchastings.edu, to hear about other ways you or your firm can continue to support the strong tradition of Moot Court success at Hastings.
