UC Hastings Team Sweeps Tang Moot Court National Championship

In a Hastings vs. Hastings final round of the Thomas Tang National Moot Court Competition, UC Hastings students Elaine Kuo ’13 and Erin Pham ’13 won first place. The National Championship was held in Atlanta, Ga., in conjunction with the annual NAPABA Convention. Erin also won the award for Second Place Oral Advocate. The UC Hastings team of Joanna Lee ’13 and Henry Truong ’13 won the National Second Place Award. Congratulations to the teams for capturing the top honors at this prestigious national championship!

The Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition is administered by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. The competition honors the late Judge Thomas Tang, a champion of individual rights and an advocate for the advancement of minority attorneys. The competition is open to all students, but is especially designed to reach out to APA law students and provide them with an opportunity to showcase their writing and oral advocacy skills and compete for scholarships.

The UC Hastings Moot Court Department extends special thanks to student coaches Ivy Paek, Matt Tabo and Susan Tran, and to alumni coaches Michelle Law, Kyong Kim, Teri Nguyen and Kathy Dong.

Please stay tuned to www.hastingsmootcourt.com for judging opportunities to help our spring UC Hastings teams win awards and championships next year! You may also contact Toni Young, director of the Moot Court Department, at younga@uchastings.edu to hear about other ways you or your firm can continue to support the strong tradition of Moot Court success at UC Hastings.
