UC Hastings Welcomes Wan Yong, Chinese Intellectual Property Specialist

UC Hastings is pleased to welcome Professor Wan Yong of Shanghai Jiaotong University KoGuan School of Law to the law school as a visiting professor.

Dr. Wan is specialist in copyright law and will co-teach a course on international and comparative intellectual property law with Professor Dana Beldiman. He will also give lectures on China’s legal system for the UC Hastings community. Professor Wan has taught a wide range of courses on intellectual property at KoGuan School of Law and served as a researcher and visiting scholar the Max Planck for Intellectual Property, Competition, and Tax Law in Germany.

UC Hastings established a faculty and student exchange program with KoGuan School of Law in 2010. Chancellor & Dean Frank H. Wu visited KoGuan in July 2011.

“We are honored to have Dr. Wan at UC Hastings and welcome this opportunity to expand our exchange with one of China’s leading law schools,” said Dean Wu.

Professor Dana Beldiman has already had an active exchange with Dr. Wan in preparation of his lectures on copyright law. “Given the many interesting developments in China’s intellectual property laws, this year’s International and Comparative Intellectual Property course at Hastings features a special emphasis on China. We are very fortunate to have Dr. Wan among us for part of the spring semester and to benefit from his extensive expertise in Chinese copyright law and the legal system of China in general.”

Professor Keith Hand, a specialist on China, sees Dr. Wan’s visit as an important step in expanding the East Asian law curriculum at UC Hastings. “As we expand our East Asian Law program, it is critical that we provide students with perspectives from inside the emerging legal systems of the Pacific Rim,” said Professor Hand. “We are very fortunate to have Dr. Wan at UC Hastings and view his visit as a model for future expansion of our East Asian law curriculum.”

Dr. Wan’s visit is the latest event in an ongoing UC Hastings initiative focused on intellectual property issues in China.
