Professor Morse Awarded Australian Research Fellowship

Professor Susan Morse has won a month-long research fellowship at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.

The fellowship will allow Morse, an accomplished scholar in the field of international tax, to look at how Australian tax policy and scholarship relate to U.S. tax doctrines.

At UC Hastings, Morse teaches Federal Income Tax, Federal Taxation of Corporations and Partnerships, U.S. Taxation of Foreign Entities and Foreign Transactions and the Tax Concentration Seminar. She also teaches Financial Basics for Lawyers.

In addition to her research, Morse will present a research seminar to Australian students and faculty, collaborate on joint publications, and participate in a tax conference during her fellowship.

Morse has done comparative work on the Australian Goods and Services Tax, a form of a VAT, or value-added tax. Her paper, How Australia Got a VAT, is available here. U.S. lawmakers have looked at a form of VAT to raise additional funds for the U.S. Treasury.
