Banke GIFT inspires Reunion Giving Reunion committee members have worked hard to inspire their classmates to give back. Barbara Banke ’78 is providing a matching gift of up to $200,000—thereby doubling the impact of gifts from other alumni—to support the UC Hastings Foundation. “I feel it is important to give back,” she says, “and I want to encourage others, too.” You can support your alma mater by contributing to your class Reunion Campaign, which will help UC Hastings raise $1 million for scholarships, faculty, and campus programs. Members of class years ending in “3” and “8” are invited to celebrate their reunions on Saturday, October 12. The schedule of events includes meals, campus tours, cocktails, and an all-years celebration at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. For information on reunions and class giving, visit www.uchastings.edu/reunions or contact Robin Drysdale at 415.565.4852 or drysdale@uchastings.edu. Planning for the Future UC Hastings’ Legacy Society honors alumni who have included the law school in their estate plans, whether they name UC Hastings in their will or make it a beneficiary of a retirement plan or life insurance policy. These donors often report a sense of satisfaction in knowing they are helping ensure the law school’s financial health for years to come. Such is the case with Steven Felderstein ’73, who recently allocated part of his estate to a fund that will provide ongoing financial support to the law school. “I wanted deserving students to have access to legal education,” he says. “With the reduction in state funding of higher education, alumni are going to have to pick up the slack, and I am happy to help.” To learn more about giving opportunities, visit www.uchastings.edu/legacy. { ADVANCEMENT } Creative Giving From est ablishi ng reunio n ch all enges to rememberi ng UC Hasti ngs in th eir est ates, alum ni have fou nd myri ad ways to give back Barbara Banke ’78 50 FALL 2013 co u r t e s y o f b a r b a r a b a n k e
