John Lim is the Managing Partner of Lim Ruger, a leading minority-owned corporate boutique law firm with offices in Los Angeles and San Francisco. As a real estate and corporate finance lawyer, John handles all facets of commercial real property and financing transactions representing developers, financial institutions, governmental entities, equity funds and institutional investors, many of which are Fortune 500 and Global 1000 companies. He also handles a wide variety of corporate financing transactions involving asset based loans, securitized debts and EB-5 equity and debt transactions.
John is a frequent speaker at symposia covering subjects such as anti-deficiency rules, loan workouts, debt/equity financing, and topics of current interest addressing bankers, accountants, lawyers and other professionals. While at UC Hastings, John was a teaching assistant in contracts to the late professor Warren Shattuck.
John is the recipient of several recognitions, including being selected as a “Super Lawyer” in Southern California in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, and 2012. He was awarded the Wiley W. Manuel Award for Pro Bono Legal Services by the State Bar of California in 1993 and the Community Leadership Award by Korean American Bar Association in 2012 for the work he did for the victims of the 1992 Los Angeles civil unrest. On behalf of the firm, John has received a Minority-Owned Law Firm Client Service Award from California Minority Counsel Program in 2009 and a Builders of Peace Award from Western Justice Center in 2011.
Grounded in his firm conviction to further equality and justice in our society, John serves on numerous boards of nonprofit organizations, currently serving as the Chair of the Board of Directors of Asian Americans Advancing Justice | Los Angeles (formerly known as Asian Pacific American Legal Center).
