Justice Marvin R. Baxter '66 | Alumnus of the Year
After a 24-year career on the California Supreme Court and 32 consecutive years of public service, Justice Marvin R. Baxter retired on Jan. 4. Justice Baxter and his wife, Jane, have been among the College’s most distinguished friends, and UC Hastings was pleased recently to announce the establishment of the Justice Marvin and Jane Baxter Endowment for Moot Court. “Everything I’ve had the privilege to do in public service is because of UC Hastings,” said Justice Baxter, “one of the finest law school in America.”
Xochitl Carrion '07 | Rising Alumna of the Year
Xochitl Carrion is deeply committed to civic and community service. In addition to her work representing the People of the City and County of San Francisco as Assistant District Attorney in the San Francisco District Attorney's Office, Carrion is the Northern California Vice President of the La Raza Lawyers Association, Co-President of Brava! for Women in the Arts, and Chair of Communications for the Hispanic National Bar Association’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Division.
Richard Marcus | Distinguished Faculty of the Year
Professor Richard Marcus’ influence extends far beyond UC Hastings, where he holds the Horace O. Coil ’57 Chair in Litigation and teaches civil procedure, complex litigation, and conflicts of law. As an associate reporter to the Advisory Committee on Civil Rules of the U.S. Judicial Conference, he was a primary drafter of amendments in 2000 to the discovery rule and helped draft further amendments to the 2006 e-discovery rule.
