Application Checklist


  1. Applicants must have - or be in the process of completing - a Bachelor's Degree or its foreign equivalent                                               

  2. Take the LSAT

    • February is the last acceptable test date for Fall admission
    • October is the last acceptable test date for Early Commitment Option applicants
  3. Register for LSDAS (www.lsac.org)

    • All applicants must send undergraduate transcripts and two letters of recommendation to LSAC Credential Assembly Service (CAS).
    • International or domestic applicants who have completed any postsecondary coursework outside the U.S. (including its territories) or Canada must submit their transcripts through the LSAC Credential Assembly Service. (This service is included in the CAS subscription fee.) This service is not required if an applicant completed foreign work through a study abroad program, consortium, or exchange program by a U.S. or Canadian institution.
  4. Submit the Application for Admission, Personal Statement, and required Resume so that they are received by March 1 for regular admission, and by November 15 for Early Commitment consideration.

    • UC Hastings College of the Law strongly encourages applicants to submit their application and all required documents online through LSAC.
    • Provide an active email address on the first page of the application and check it regularly. Please be sure your email account is set to receive email from uchastings.edu
    • Please include your name and LSAC account number on all documents
  5. Submit a $75.00 application fee made payable to UC Hastings College of the Law

    • Please note that applying online requires payment via credit card
    • Fee Waivers: UC Hastings College of the Law requires and honors fee waivers submitted through LSAC. Please contact LSAC for further information (www.lsac.org).
  6. Submit only two letters of recommendation from individuals familiar with your academic work

    • Please note that letters must be submitted directly to CAS with your LSAC account number
    • If you have been out of school for more than one year, you may use employer recommendations
  7. Answer questions 1-4 on page 2 of the application regarding prior law school enrollment, academic sanction, employment, or criminal convictions. If you answer yes to any one of the four questions, you must provide an explanation on a separate sheet.

  8. Legal Education Opportunity Program Application (LEOP) (optional). This supplemental application is solely for those who wish to be considered through LEOP. LEOP applicants must answer all relevant questions on the LEOP Application Supplement. They may choose to include information about the adversity they faced and its impact on their academic preparation in their personal statement or provide a second essay for this purpose (preferred). In addition, to the extent that other information will help the evaluation of your claim about significant adversity, please provide it. (For instance, diagnostic reports concerning disabilities and accommodations should be submitted.)

  9. Financial Aid (optional) - Submit between January 1 and March 2

    • Submit UC Hastings Entering Student Financial Aid Supplement - you can complete and submit the Supplement online with your application for admission
    • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) (www.fafsa.ed.gov)
