Transfer & Visitor Applicants
UC Hastings requires transfer and visitor applicants to apply online through the Law School Admission Council's Credential Assembly Service (CAS). All fall visitor and transfer applications must be submitted by July 1st. If you are applying as a spring visitor, you must submit your application by November 15th. Please contact the Admissions Office via email if you have any questions.

Once the Admissions Office receives your completed application, we will request your CAS report and supporting documents from LSAC.
Transfer Students
Students currently attending an ABA/AALS accredited law school may be eligible to transfer to UC Hastings. A student must have completed or being in the process of completing at least 24 semester units to be eligible for transfer, and may transfer a maximum of 30 semester units. In order to be awarded a Hastings J.D., a student must successfully complete a minimum of 56 units while enrolled at Hastings as a full-time student for no fewer than four semesters. Transfer applicants may apply for the fall only.
Application Requirements:
- Application and $75.00 application fee.
- Personal Statement describing background, academic history, professional experience, and personal accomplishments as well as reasons for transferring to UC Hastings.
- Two letters of recommendation submitted through LSAC CAS; preferably from law school factulty.
- Official transcript of all law school work, complete through Spring. This must be sent directly from your current law school to UC Hastings.
- Letter of good standing from your current law school mailed directly to UC Hastings.
- Resume
- An updated CAS report that includes two current letters of recommendation (UC Hastings will request this directly from LSAC).
Visiting Students
Visiting Student status is granted to students who will receive their degrees from other law schools. Candidates should have competitive law school grades and demonstrate a compelling need to attend Hastings. Visiting applicants may apply for fall and/or spring terms.
Application Requirements:
- Application and $75.00 application fee.
- Personal Statement defining a compelling need to attend UC Hastings.
- Two letters of recommendation from law school faculty.
- Official transcript of all your law school work. This must be sent directly from your current law school to UC Hastings.
- Letter from current law school indicating that you have permission to visit UC Hastings.
- Resume
- An updated CAS report (UC Hastings will request this directly from LSAC).
