Student Housing FAQs

Where is UC Hastings located?
Our urban campus is located at the intersection of San Francisco's Civic Center and Tenderloin. This area is home to federal, state, and county courts, as well as the San Francisco Opera House, Asian Art Museum, Davies Symphony Hall, Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, and the Main Library. UC Hastings is within blocks of San Francisco's City Hall and every level of court with the exception of the U.S. Supreme Court. (See Map.)

Does Hastings offer housing for its students?
Yes. Hastings is one of a few law schools with housing devoted exclusively to its students. The McAllister Tower, once San Francisco's tallest structure, is Hastings' residential center. The Tower holds 248 efficiency, studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments on 17 floors, housing 300 Hastings students and their families. In addition to the Tower, Hastings students have access to housing at UCSF's Mission Bay campus, about two miles from Hastings. A MUNI light rail line connects the two locations.

If I don't live in Hastings housing, where do I live?
Most Hastings students choose to live in various San Francisco neighborhoods or in surrounding communities, mostly in the East Bay cities of Berkeley and Oakland (easily accessible by BART, the Bay Area Rapid Transit system). For information about the various neighborhoods in which our students live, please take time to review the following presentation: A Student’s Guide to Housing.

Where do I park when attending Hastings?
Most students have no need to own a car (SF has a very extensive public transit system, and Hastings is blessed to be at its hub).  Students who drive to school can park at the Hastings Garage, corner of Larkin and Golden Gate.  For parking rates contact Parking Manager Angel Solano at solanoa@uchastings.edu.
