Alumni News Clinical Professors Donna Ryu and Miye Goishi, along with the Hastings Civil Justice Clinic, were profiled in an article in The Recorder that mentioned Marissa Diehl '04, Monica Hernandez '04, Sarah Beard '05, and Suzy Delgin '05 for their contributions to Murphy v. Kenneth Cole Productions, which prevailed at the California Supreme Court. A bill to designate the federal courthouse in Fresno the Robert E. Coyle United States Courthouse has passed both houses of Congress. The bill awaits signature by President Bush. Robert Coyle graduated from Hastings in 1956. The Oakland Metropolitan Chamber Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Warren Wilson '51. A noted philanthropist and trailblazer, Wilson is the former owner/CEO of Thomas Brothers Maps. He has practiced law for more than 50 years. Lucy Armendariz '97, a former chief of staff for Senate Majority Leader Gloria Romero, is the newest State Bar Court hearing judge. The Northern California chapter of the American Immigrant Lawyers Association elected Larry Drumm '96 chair. Pilar Morin '96, an associate at Liebert Cassidy Whitmore in Los Angeles, was named a 2007 Southern California Rising Star. Becky Stretch '76 (formerly King) serves in the newly created position of assistant consultant for the American Bar Association's Center for Professional Responsibility. John Dermody '07 received a prestigious Fulbright Grant and will travel to Sierra Leone to research his project, "Post-Conflict Rule of Law Development in Sierra Leone" at the Special Court. Vernon Winters '87 has been appointed to the Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation. Santa Clara County Counsel Ann Miller Ravel '74 is the State Bar of California Public Law Section's Public Lawyer of the Year. Faculty News Nancy Stuart '94 is joining Hastings as associate clinical professor and the new director of clinical programs. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission now accepts family responsibilities discrimination as a form of gender discrimination, based on testimony by Distinguished Professor Joan Williams. On a recent trip to Germany, Professor Leo Martinez gave insurance law lectures at the University of Goettingen School of Law and the Kompetenzzentrum Versicherungswissenschaften. Adjunct Professor Gary Watt's article, "Property Owners, Be Wary of 'Imminent Peril,'" was published in the California Real Estate Journal. Distinguished Professor Joan Williams co-authored articles in Pepperdine Law Review, University of San Francisco Law Review, and Duke Journal of Law and Policy.
