Welcome to UC Hastings! We in the Student Services Office look forward to your arrival!
The Office of Student Services is here for you!
Law school can sometimes feel like boot camp- it can be strenuous and challenging. You won’t always enjoy the experience, but you will likely come out of law school appreciative of the journey, with excellent lawyering skills, and ready to join the legal profession.
For current students, we are your first point of contact for any general or personal questions or concerns you may have. Most importantly, please think of me and the Office of Student Services as your liaison, voice, and advocate to the rest of the Administration. We are excited for your arrival and hope to make your transition to law school as smooth as possible.
Orientation Schedule will be available soon.
Orientation will be Monday- Friday August 17-21, 2015. Classes start Monday August 24, 2015.
Is Orientation Mandatory?
Yes. Orientation is mandatory, and we take attendance. It is expected that you will schedule vacations, work and other obligations so that you are present on these dates and for the academic school year. If you have an extraordinary circumstance that means you will not be able to attend part of Orientation, please email me now and let me know.
What should I Bring to Orientation?
You may want to bring a lock to claim your locker. On one day, you may want to bring a laptop. Details will be forthcoming.
What is the Dress Code for Orientation?
During the first day of Orientation (Monday August 17), you will be able to take a free professional head shot that you could use on sites such as LinkedIn. We will also have a session on professionalism and a judge will administer a professionalism pledge to welcome you into the legal community. For all these reasons, please dress in business or business casual attire on the first day of Orientation. On Tuesday, we will have a spirit day, so please wear some UC Hastings gear or blue and gold to show your UC Hastings pride! Wednesday-Friday, you can wear student attire to Orientation.
Do you have an extraordinary circumstance that should be considered during scheduling?
Schedules and section assignments are randomly assigned, but extraordinary circumstances that you cannot readily adjust to fit your new law school schedule, such as, but not limited to, documented medical needs, being a caretaker for a family member, or child-care responsibilities may be taken into account when scheduling. If your extraordinary circumstance that you would like taken into consideration during scheduling is due to a documented disability, please contact Lisa Noshay Petro, Director of the Disability Resource Program at email@example.com. All other extraordinary circumstance special requests should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. All special scheduling requests must be received by Monday, July 13, 2015.
Welcome from the Disability Resource Program! Do you need a reasonable accommodation for a disability?
UC Hastings is committed to building a strong, supportive, vibrant and connected learning community for all. You are part of that community! The Disability Resource Program (DRP) provides an array of services and support, including reasonable accommodations, to students with disabilities. Registering with DRP to determine eligibility and accommodations is an interactive, deliberative and collaborative process, which includes meeting with the Director and reviewing relevant documentation. It is not meant to be an onerous process, but it can take time. Therefore, students with disabilities are urged to contact DRP as soon as possible to initiate this process. Students are advised to initiate contact with DRP by contacting our Senior Program Coordinator, Laura Andrews Navas, at email@example.com or 415-565-4802 by Friday, July 31, 2015 for timely consideration of accommodation requests for the fall semester. Please refer to the UC Hastings website at http://www.uchastings.edu/about/admin-offices/disability-resource-program/index.php for more information.
Do you have a dietary restriction that should be considered for your meals during Orientation?
Please email Student Services Program Coordinator Flor Mesquita at firstname.lastname@example.org by Monday, July 13, 2015 with details of your dietary restrictions so she can arrange special meals for you during Orientation. We will have vegetarian options, but to ensure we order the correct amounts, please note if you are vegetarian, vegan, gluten free, or have some other specific dietary restriction.
