Purpose

The Office of Student Services provides current students with services and programs that enhance student life, enrich the academic experience, and encourage professional growth. We also serve as a liaison for students to the rest of the Administration.

Services

Student Services offers advice and counseling on academic and personal matters for students; provides important information to students on a variety of issues; acts as a liaison between students, faculty, and other administrators; funds some travel for student organizations; coordinates student activities; designs programs from orientation to commencement; and hosts workshops on academic advising and bar-related issues.

We provide these services and more:

• Academic advising- mapping out what courses you want to take at UC Hastings.
• Personal/non-academic counseling. (We also supervise Student Health Services that provides counseling and other services.)
• Facilitate student communication with other administrators and/or staff.
• Serve as the administrative advisor to ASUCH (Associated Students of UC Hastings).
• Serve as an advisor to all other student organizations (over 70 student orgs), helping them coordinate activities and plan events.
• Plan Commencement, Orientation and other student programming including community events such as the Annual Cabaret, Student Organizations' Faire, Ice Cream Socials and Bingo, First Year Section Breakfasts, 2L "Over the Hump" Celebration, Third Year Section Reunions, Bar Sweeps Weeks and Grad "To Do" Day.
• Distribute and compile The Weekly, which is the weekly electronic newsletters containing important deadlines, events, and notices for students.
• Process travel funding requests for students sponsored by student orgs wishing to attend national conferences.
• Disburse funds for the child care rebate.
• Coordinate priority registration for students in need due to personal circumstances.
• Manage student use and staffing of the Skyroom as a study space on campus.
• Coordinate faculy advising program.
• Review student initiated grievances regarding discriminatory practices and violation of privacy rights. The procedures are described in the Academic Regulations and Other Rules Applicable to Students, Section 90-92, p. 43.
