Tracking the Future of the Affordable Care Act

On March 6, 2017, Congress released its new health care plan titled the American Health Care Act of 2017 and the UCSF/UC Law SF Consortium on Law, Science and Policy has created a website to keep track of the latest efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act.

The new Health Reform Tracker website provides up-to-date information on efforts to modify, repeal, or replace the Affordable Care Act, as well as scholarly and evidence-based analysis of those efforts. It will track activities at the federal level, with a particular eye to their impacts in California.

“We believe facts and evidence matter, especially when it comes to healthcare. Efforts to reform the Affordable Care Act will have real and significant impacts on families across the country and here in California, and our goal is to help shed light on both the law and evidence surrounding these policies,” says Managing Editor Sarah Hooper ’08.

The Tracker is up and running due to the extraordinary hard work of Laura Hagen ’16 and Amanda Naprawa, and was the brainchild of Founder and Executive Editor, Jaime King.

“At some point in our lives, we all need health care. The decisions that are being made right now in Washington will affect everyone at some point, maybe tomorrow, maybe a few years from now. So at this critical moment, as our nation decides the future of our healthcare system, it’s imperative that people have access to unbiased, data-driven information and analysis about the implications of the proposed changes to health care in America,” says Professor King.

The Tracker projects to be a fantastic new resource for consumers, policymakers, scholars, healthcare providers, and others going forward.
