Improv Keeps Students on Their Toes
On October 28, 2020, Mattie Robertson, ’10 (Deputy Director, CNDR) and co-host Gabriel Bellman, ’05 (Director of Graduate Advising, CDO), led students in a Creative Commons workshop focused on using Improv techniques to learn adaptability and reacting in the moment. Staying focused and being able to pivot when faced with new information are important skills for young lawyers.
Students took part in several virtual improv exercises that worked their brains and bodies – focusing on mental flexibility, stimulating thinking fast, and practicing public speaking skills. Everyone practiced getting creative with storytelling in “Sorry I’m Late,” and learned how to let go of control and roll with what someone else is offering you in “Oh Good I Needed That,” which resulted in some side-splitting scenarios.
The Creative Commons team was happy to provide some interactive fun, and, as one student said, “a break from the grind.” Please join us next time!
