CREJ has anxiously watched as Iranians have taken to the streets to protest the senseless death of Mahsa Amini.  As educators, we are dismayed by the violent crackdown by Iran’s security forces on students and faculty protesting at universities across Iran including Tehran’s Sharif University of Technology.

We write to acknowledge and amplify the voices of Iranians demanding gender equality and women’s rights.  We unequivocally condemn any attempt to violently suppress the freedom of expression.  We stand in solidarity with the students, faculty, and all Iranians as they rise up for equity, justice, and freedom.

Our thoughts are also with our Hastings students and other community members whose families and friends are directly impacted by the violence and unrest.
