McAllister Tower, one block away from the school’s academic and administrative buildings, is an iconic San Francisco building. Formerly the Empire Hotel, it once featured a full-scale church on its ground floors and was one of San Francisco’s tallest structures. Now part of the National Register Uptown Tenderloin Historic District, UC Hastings’ residential center holds 252 efficiency, studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments on 17 floors.

Applicant Eligibility & Process: All admitted UC Hastings students who have paid their enrollment deposit are eligible to apply to live in the McAllister Tower. The link to the housing application is included in your deposit confirmation email. Apartments are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Once assigned an apartment, students are permitted to live in the Tower for the duration of their study at UC Hastings. Due to the limited number of apartments, new students who are interested in residing at McAllister Tower are encouraged to apply early.
