Alumni Career Mentorship

Mentor a current student no matter where you are in your career!

Become an Alumni Mentor

The Alumni Mentor Program matches our students with UC Hastings alumni who act as role models and advisors on a range of professional development issues. The Program gives students the opportunity to explore legal career options and pathways, and to start building a professional network. Mentors are matched with students interested in the mentor’s practice area or non-legal profession. The exact mentor relationship is defined by each pair. Typical activities include discussions about the mentor’s position and career path, advice on the skills and experience needed to enter the field, and suggestions or introductions for additional professional networking and informational meetings. All meetings with the student can be virtual. To volunteer to be an alumni mentor, contact Koreen Kelleher (’85) at: kelleherkoreen@uchastings.edu.

Be a Mock Interviewer

The Mock Interview Program occurs twice a year – in January and July. Interviewers conduct a virtual 20-minute mock interview as if they are hiring for a position, and then debrief with the student with constructive comments on what worked and what could be improved. The program helps prepare our students for success in actual virtual interviews. To volunteer to be a mock interviewer, contact Koreen Kelleher (’85) at: kelleherkoreen@uchastings.edu.

Hire Hastings

  • Fall & Spring Semester OCI (late August to November & mid-January to March ): We invite small and mid-size firms, in-house legal departments, nonprofits, and government agencies to interview students on-campus, free of charge, for semester internships and summer and post-JD positions. Employers can pre-select 100% of the candidates. To get started, contact Darell Alforte (alforted@uchastings.edu).
  • The Attorneys in Residence (AiR) Program: AiR is a one-year post-graduate employment opportunity for UC Hastings’ most recent graduating class to work with small or mid-size firms and in-house legal departments that do not typically hire first-year attorneys. Participating AiR Program employers typically need qualified attorneys but may not have the time to recruit or have concerns about hiring a new, untested attorney permanently. Our suggested compensation range for AiR attorneys is $55,000 to $85,000. To explore joining AiR contact Fairuz Abdullah (abdullah@uchastings.edu).
  • Post a Job: The UC Hastings Career Office welcomes job postings for student and alumni positions year-round, free of charge, accessible to UC Hastings students and alumni. To post a job, contact Darell Alforte (alforted@uchastings.edu)
