China’s De-territorialized Authoritarian Legality

The Center for East Asian Legal Studies is pleased to welcome Margaret Lewis, Professor of Law for a presentation discussion of new developments in China’s domestic legal system to support China’s overseas law enforcement efforts, including the return of individuals suspected of corruption and related assets through China’s “Foxhunt” program.  

Professor Lewis is a leading expert on criminal justice and human rights issues in mainland China and Taiwan and has published widely on these topics.  She is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and has served as Fulbright Senior Scholar at National Taiwan University, visiting professor at Academia Sinica, and Public Intellectuals Program Fellow with the National Committee on United States-China Relations.  Prior to joining the faculty at Seton Hall, Professor Lewis was a Senior Research Fellow at the U.S.-Asia Law Institute at the NYU School of Law and practiced law with Clearly, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton in New York.
