“Diversity in Legal Thought and Practice” Speaker Series Featuring Lucia Martel-Dow
January 22 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
Please join us for this lecture by LL.M. alum Lucia Martel-Dow, Director of Immigration and Social Services for Canal Alliance.
Canal Alliance exists to break the generational cycle of poverty for Latino immigrants and their families by lifting barriers to their success.
Martel-Dow went to law school in Venezuela. Following law school, she earned a Master’s Degree in International Law and International Relations which led her to become a career diplomat in Venezuela for four years. Due to difficult political circumstances, Martel-Dow later moved to Spain where she got another Master’s Degree in International Development, Humanitarian Aid and Migration Studies.
After spending time in the private and nonprofit sectors, Martel-Dow decided to return to practicing law and earned an LL.M. at UC Hastings Law. She was first operations manager at Canal Alliance. She then became an accredited representative through the Department of Justice which allowed her to represent people with immigration issues prior to passing the California bar exam.
