New Student Orientation Fall 2020

August 10 - August 13

Virtual Event
A Variety of 1L Law Students Taking an Oath

Orientation marks the beginning of your law school journey, and your introduction not only to our faculty, staff, and upper-division students, but more importantly, to each other. Many law students find a lifelong community among their classmates and section-mates, and this often begins at Orientation. It is also the beginning of your legal education, and we have put several academic skill-building sessions into the week to help you better transition to the law classroom experience. And finally, it is your chance to learn more about the many, many resources and opportunities that exist at UC Hastings to help you grow personally and professionally towards your goals, from our clinics and experiential programs, to the most helpful administrative departments, to the cornerstones of student life – our student leaders. We hope that you find the program we have put together for you interesting and fun, and that it serves as a solid foundation for next three years.

Dates

Orientation will take place virtually from Monday, August 10th  – Thursday, August 13, 2019.

All new JD students are required to attend each day of Orientation. Failure to attend Orientation may result in an administrative withdrawal from UC Hastings.

If you require an exception, please contact the Office of Student Services ASAP so that we can assess your situation.

The final Orientation week schedule will be e-mailed to you in a PDF brochure and will include links to different events.

Reading/Homework Assignments

Please stay tuned for homework assignments from our Office for Academic Skills, Instruction, and Support (OASIS).

All students are required to attend a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training workshop during Orientation. Please check out this page on MyHastings for the required reading materials in preparation for the session.

Dress Code

There is no dress code for the Monday through Thursday virtual programming, although San Francisco weather can be notoriously unpredictable. Please dress comfortably for the socially distanced “Meet Your Inn” events.

Before You Arrive

Please check the New JD Student Site on MyHastings for a checklist of items to take care of before arriving on campus.
