Rutter Award Ceremony
January 30, 2019 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
The Rutter Endowment provides UC Hastings an annual award of $10,000 for our outstanding professor. According to the terms of the gift, the outstanding professor is chosen each year by a committee consisting of the Academic Dean, a student, an alumnus, and the prior year’s winner. This year’s selection committee included Professor Dave Owen (last year’s recipient), Kelly Matayoshi (Class of 2012), Katie Gross (ASUCH President and the student representative), and Academic Dean Morris Ratner.
The Committee unanimously selected Professor Mai Linh Spencer as this year’s recipient of The Rutter Award for Teaching Excellence. Professor Spencer teaches or has taught, among other courses, the Individual Representation Clinic and Evidence, and she runs the Lawyers for America program. As one of Professor Spencer’s students said of the Individual Representation Clinic: “This has been one of the highlights of law school so far…. I have been particularly impressed by Prof. Spencer’s dedication to us and to our cases.” Professor Spencer’s Evidence students have called her “amazing,” “fantastic,” and, of course, the “[m]ost bomb teacher EVER.”
The UC Hastings Events Calendar offers a comprehensive list of campus events, including co-curricular programming, faculty lectures, colloquia, wellness activities, alumni events, larger departmental meetings, and events sponsored by College departments, faculty, law journals, and registered student orgs. This functions as the College’s master calendar, which includes all events taking place on campus on any particular day.
