Supreme Court Review and Preview
September 26, 2018 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
This popular annual event will happen in two sessions, Wednesday September 26th and Tuesday October 2nd at 3:30-5pm in the ARC. The panels will discuss blockbuster cases from the last Term, as well as big upcoming cases in the current Term.
On September 26th, Professor Radhika Rao (who clerked for Justices Thurgood Marshall and Harry Blackmun) will moderate Civil cases, including Masterpiece Cakeshop: when can a business deny services based on sexual orientation?; the “Travel Ban” decision; and First Amendment arguments directed at California’s statute regulating “pregnancy crisis centers.”
On October 2nd, Professor Rory Little (who clerked for Justices Brennan, Stevens, and Stewart) will moderate Civil cases, including the Fourth Amendment – cell location data and others; denial of bail hearings for some non-dangerous immigration detainees; and the right of a death penalty defendant to not have his lawyer concede guilt.
This is always a great Constitutional law discussion, and it is often the most well-attended event of the year at Hastings. Get there early!
Refreshments will be served.
