The Future of Work: Labor Law and Labor Organizing at a Crosswords

ELLSA is thrilled to host an interactive panel with key leaders in labor organizing, attorneys in the field, and academics to ask: what is the future of workers power in the United States?
Recent surges in lockouts, strikes, and resignations suggest many people are unhappy with the workplace as we know it. Yet joining a union has become increasingly difficult with private sector union membership at an all-time low. While many of the challenges workers face today mirror those in the early 1900’s, today’s economy is drastically different. The gig economy takeover, the rise of independent contractor misclassifications, the technological revolution, and the rise of the “Right to work” statutes all pose obstacles to job quality. While developments in the labor market continue, we will grapple with both new and ongoing trends and look forward welcoming all to this discussion.
Panelist will include labor law attorneys and Amazon Union leader Chris Smalls.
Panelist will discuss new policies of labor law, strategies of labor power, and share more about their work.
Law students will have the opportunity to ask the panel questions and network with speakers following the event. Food and beverages will be provided while supplies last.
This is a great opportunity for students to gain in-depth knowledge of current labor law issues and make meaningful connections with key leaders, attorneys, and academics in the employment and labor law field.
