Waging External Struggle through Law: How China Is Developing Domestic Legal Capacity to Compete with the United States

In recent years, Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping has emphasized the importance of using national law and the judiciary to “resolutely defend” China’s sovereignty and core interests.  In response, senior leaders have called on China to expand its legal toolkit to address complex international challenges.  This lecture will explore ways in which China is developing domestic legal institutions to deploy in economic and strategic competition with the United States and discuss implications for U.S businesses and policymakers.
