Hastings Legacy Review Committee

The Hastings Legacy Review Committee (HLRC) was a limited-time committee formed and charged by Chancellor and Dean David Faigman in August 2017 to assess and provide recommendations for responding to the history of the actions of our founder, including initiatives that would continue in an ongoing manner. The 13 volunteer members included alumni, faculty, staff, educators and practitioners in the areas of tribal law.

The HLRC completed their charge and term by submitting a comprehensive report to the Chancellor and Dean in July 2020 that included the research of Professor Brendan Lindsay of Sacramento State University, who, in addition to serving on the committee, was commissioned in to write a historical paper describing the actions of Serranus Hastings in the Round and Eden Valleys in the context of California’s history with Native American tribes.
