Bio

Cory A. Birnberg founded Birnberg & Associates in 1984. He is currently the only attorney appointed by the California State Bar to the Commission for Admiralty and Maritime matters in Northern California. He is a certified Admiralty Specialist. His practice concentrates on the Longshore and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act, the Jones act, Defense Base Act. He also practices Bankruptcy law and does Personal Injury cases. He has tried maritime cases in Hawaii, Washington, Alaska, Texas, Oregon, Louisiana, Florida, and appeared in most port cities. He has represented private individuals who are employed in our countries defense in Iraq, Afghanistan and throughout the world, in what is commonly known as the Defense Based Act and non-appropriated fund cases. He has more than 23 published opinions, one California Supreme Court opinion.

Professor Birnberg graduated from the University of California Los Angeles and his law degree is from Loyola Marymount University. He has an L.L.M. in Admiralty from Tulane University. Professor Birnberg was admitted to the California Bar in 1982. He is a Giants and Warriors fan. He has a commercial pilot’s license, as well as a long history of sailboat racing, dinghies and keelboats. He is married to Valnice Birnberg and has several children.
