Biography

Teresa Carey is a professional Neutral and Conflict Resolution instructor. Drawing on over 25 years experience in the US and internationally, she is known for her skillful and pragmatic approach to resolving conflict, excellent communication skills, insight, and outstanding teaching abilities. A pioneer in the field, she co-founded the Marin County Superior Court ADR Program, the first Superior Court ADR program in California, and is the founder of Professional Mediation Associates, a network of leading CR professionals.

Since 1980, she has been instrumental in resolving disputes referred by the courts, attorneys, business, government agencies, individuals, and organizations, including the US District Court, Northern District, the California Court of Appeal, First District, the Superior Courts of Marin, Alameda and Contra Costa, the US Postal Service, California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the Equal Opportunity Commission, San Francisco Human Services Agency, California Lawyers for the Arts, and UC San Francisco Medical Center.  Cases include business, workplace, labor, and employment, intellectual property, real property, injury, probate/trust, documentary film and other arts disputes, international, intercultural, and civil rights disputes.

Ms. Carey designs and conducts professional mediation, negotiation, and conflict resolution training courses including her well-known 40-hour certificate programs, advanced trainings, and customized education programs for government and private companies.  She has served as a mediation instructor and/or guest faculty lecturer for UC Berkeley, Stanford University, UC Hastings Center for Negotiation and Dispute Resolution, Golden Gate Law School, Sonoma State University, San Francisco Human Services Agency, The Professional Fiduciary Association of California, UC San Francisco Medical Center, John F. Kennedy University, Marin County Board of Education, University of Kent, London Centre for International Relations, Apple, Inc., and the Karnataka Courts, Bangalore Mediation Centre, India.  She has also coached the award winning UC Hastings, CNDR Negotiation and Mediation student competitions.
