Professor Toni Young is a 1976 graduate of UC Hastings College of the Law. While a student, she was President of the Class of 1976, a Moot Court Brief Award Winner, an Editor of the Hastings Law News, an ASH Council member, a recipient of the Newhouse Foundation Scholarship and the founder of the Hastings Law Revue. While in law school, Professor Young worked as a San Jose State University fundraiser and on the production side of the concert and entertainment industry. She is a 1973 graduate of San Jose State University where she received a B.A. in English with Honors.
After graduation, Professor Young worked at several San Francisco law firms, with a practice in maritime and admiralty law. She also handled appeals in state and federal courts and federal employment discrimination cases. In 1983, she opened her own law firm with an emphasis in personal injury, family law, maritime personal injury cases, and general litigation. She worked as a sole practitioner until she joined the UC Hastings Community full-time in December 1992.
Before becoming Director of Legal Writing and Research and Moot Court, Professor Young was an Instructor for both subjects at UC Hastings beginning in 1987. In addition, she has been a San Francisco Municipal Court Judge Pro Tem since 1987, and a San Francisco Superior Court Judge Pro Tem and a Judicial Arbitrator since 1990.
