As we head into the Fourth of July weekend, a time when we celebrate the victory of law over tyranny, it is worth contemplating the role of the modern law school.
While it is an annual rite of spring for deans to celebrate or lament the widely variable swings in rankings from year-to-year, UC Hastings must keep its eyes on what counts. We are doing that.
Today a group of 20 deans of ABA-accredited California law schools submitted a letter to the California Supreme Court, calling upon it to “exercise its legal jurisdiction over the California State Bar to adjust its scoring methods to bring them in line with the nation’s at large.”
The UC Hastings’ seal carries the words fiat justitia — Let Justice Be Done. This motto is not a hollow promise; it is who we are and what we do.
